Mys Nyx

Mys Nyx is a Calgary-based fine art painter whose work bridges wildlife, global culture, and fantasy — richly detailed pieces built on layered storytelling and a deep fascination with the strength found in delicate things.

Eyes are a recurring focal point throughout her work. She sees them as powerful windows into the soul, capable of carrying emotion and narrative depth that no photograph can replicate. Cultural influences from around the world shape her palette, ornamentation, and symbolism — celebrating human connection through intricate jewelry, rich colour, and the time-honoured traditions of diverse communities.

Rooted in a graphic design background and shaped by years teaching design history, Mys Nyx developed a precise and intentional visual language. Her love of Art Nouveau — particularly the masterful compositions of Alphonse Mucha — runs through her flowing linework and ornate, harmonious arrangements. She also draws deep inspiration from celebrated wildlife artist Robert Bateman, with whom she had the honour of exhibiting in 2013.

In 2026 she participated in Art Vancouver, Canada's largest art exhibition, showcasing her latest collections to collectors from across the country.

Her work invites viewers into moments of stillness and beauty — honouring the grace and resilience found in both the natural and imagined worlds.

In 2026 Mys Nyx participated in Art Vancouver, Canada's largest art exhibition, presenting her latest collections to collectors, curators, and art lovers from across the country.

Robert Bateman Exhibition — 2013
In 2013 she had the honour of exhibiting alongside Robert Bateman, one of Canada's most celebrated wildlife artists and a lifelong inspiration behind her own approach to the natural world.

Night to Dawn Gallery — Founded 2020
Founded in 2020, Night to Dawn Gallery was built from the ground up — brand, identity, and collection — as a home for original fine art that bridges wildlife, culture, and fantasy.

The Foundation of the Work

Every painting Mys Nyx creates is built on a deep understanding of anatomy, structure, and form. These life drawing and anatomical studies — from the skeletal detail of a German shepherd to the mechanics of the human foot — represent the technical foundation beneath the painterly surface. The obsessive detail you see in her finished work doesn't happen by accident.

Character Design

From initial sketch to fully rendered character, Mys Nyx approaches character design the same way she approaches painting — with obsessive attention to personality, movement, and detail. These pieces span animation-ready character sheets, digital illustration, and concept art.
